Women judges and attorneys navigate a professional landscape where power, status, and influence operate by both spoken and unspoken rules. This presentation explores how to navigate these realities and provides actionable strategies for thriving within them. Participants will examine the foundations of power and status in the legal profession, explore the “double bind” that often penalizes women for asserting authority, and learn practical tools for elevating status among colleagues, clients, and the community.
Importantly, this session also invites male colleagues into the conversation—examining how norms around power and credibility are reinforced, how allyship can shift outcomes in meaningful ways, and how leaders of all genders can help build environments where authority and influence are not constrained by gendered expectations. Attendees will leave with concrete strategies not only for advancing their own impact, but for shaping a more equitable and high-performing professional culture.
